The stakes are high in this election season and I worry about the direction the country will be heading in your generation. But if you decide early on, to go ahead and be the next female president of the United States, I have some words to share for you.
While many women have tried to run for president and failed, each election season moves an inch closer in breaking that glass ceiling and in paving the way for other little girls to a little bit dream bigger in attaining the highest position in the land.
If you do want to be president, I will tell you this:
Believe in yourself: Have a firm, unshakable belief in yourself that you can achieve your goal and that you have the qualities to make a great commander-in-chief. Choose a career direction such as business owner or attorney that will help you shape you into this role. Don’t be afraid of campaigning and the doubters or haters that will appear in your public life. Start with a strong belief in yourself, build a sound support network, and talk about the issues that you care about/affect the public sphere in your platform for candidacy and how you can make a difference.
Dream big: No one in the United States will ever hold a person back from dreaming big. We are only limited by our own thoughts, beliefs, and imagination. Create a vision for yourself on who you want to be and what kind of person you want to be as president. Listen to motivational speakers and read positive affirmations in your quest to be the next president. Find what’s important to you and your constituents to create a better vision for America and future for all.
Don’t be afraid to fail: This fear usually prevents most people from pursuing their goals. It also stops people from pursuing their dreams if they encounter failure. This is a limiting mindset and will paralyze you from taking the next steps to accomplish your dream. If you see failure as a way to change and grow, rather than a reason to stop what you are trying to do, then you will move one step closer to your goal. Embrace failure and learn from it. Life is not easy and being president is an uphill battle but you can do it if you have the will power and positive attitude.
Have a heart to serve:
Being president calls for someone with a heart to serve and take part in the public domain. This is a position that you will be called for simply by wanting to serve others and make a difference in people’s lives that will affect their daily living, quality of life, and livelihoods. It does take ambition but not in a self-serving way. Public service is a noble profession and you should also act in the most honest and noble manner because you will always be judged by your intentions, motives, and actions. If your heart to serve is great and your ambition will lead you to be the next President, you can do this.
I believe ever person has their own path to take; yours might be becoming the next President or even if you decide to pursue something else, it is every parents hope is that the future is reborn in fulfilling the potential of every child.
It is my hope you read this letter and help decide for yourself what you want to do with your life when you are older. Maybe it will spur other girls in your position to take this path since we do need other females in office to represent women’s rights in the fight for equality for women.
For now, I will enjoy every minute of watching you grow, learn, and play. I look forward to the day when I can help guide you on your path to your dreams and in achieving your life’s goals.
